Performtasksthatrequiremainlyphysicalabilitiesandeffortinvolvinglittleornospecializedskillorpriorworkexperience.Thefollowingtasksaretypicalofthisoccupation:Loadandunloadtrucks,andotherconveyances;movesuppliesandmaterialstoproperlocationbywheelbarrowsorhandtrucks;stackmaterialsforstorageorbinning;collectrefuseandsalvageablematerials;dig,fill,andtampearthexcavations;levelgroundusingpick,shovel,tamperandrake;shovelconcreteandcleanculvertsandditches;cuttreesandbrush;operatepowerlawnmowers;moveandarrangeheavypiecesofofficeandhouseholdfurniture,equipment,and appliances;moveheavypiecesofautomotive,medicalengineering,andothertypesofmachineryandequipment;spreadsandandsaltonicyroadsandwalk-ways;andpickupleavesandtrash.

Duties:

  • Using walking-type or riding mowers;cut the grass. Using hedge trimmers, clippers,and edging tools; trim hedge and edge around walks, flower beds, and wells. Using shears and other hand tools; clip shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth.

  • Spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide and plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.

  • Perform pressure washing as required.Using hose or activating sprinkler system, water lawns, and shrubs during dry periods.

  • Pick up and burn or cart away leaves, paper and other litter.

  • Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings. Assist In repair of roads, walks,buildings, and mechanical equipment.

  • Clean comfort stations, office and workshop areas,and parking lots by sweeping,washing, mopping, and polishing.

  • Be familiar with the Quality Control/Customer Satisfaction Plan (QC/CSP) requirements and perform QC/CS actions as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: High school diplomaor its equivalent. May be substituted with 1 year of directexperience in grounds maintenance.

E xperience

Requires 0-2 years of experiencein the field of groundsmaintenance. Possess knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures used in grounds maintenance and repair. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Specific:

Requires 0-2 years of experiencein the field of groundsmaintenance. Works with Grounds Maintenance Lead and primary job functionsdo not typically require exercising independent judgment.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the practices,methods, tools, and equipment of the ground maintenance trade.

  • Knowledge of the mechanical systems of ground maintenance equipment.

  • Knowledge of the hazardsand standard safety precautions of the trade.

  • Skill in the use of tools and in the operationof equipment employedin ground maintenance.

  • Ability to maintainrecords.

  • Ability to work from specifications and oral and written instructions.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • California Driver’s License
