JOB DESCRIPTION: SAVA is seeking a candidate to perform digitalforensic analysis and research and development in support of a customer’slaboratory requirements. In this capacity, examiners shall conduct dutiescommonly associated with forensic analyses and research. In situations wherelaboratory policy does not exist or is not clear, the examiner shall rely onindustry best practices. Candidates need to develop the expertise to extractevidence from a variety of data sources, to include proprietary pharmaceuticaldatabases. The examiner is expected to be able to apply research in order tosolve unique analytical challenges. Candidates will perform On-Site Backups(OSB) digital forensics support in accordance with the customer’s policies andprocedures.

These duties may include, butare not limited to, the following:

Assisting with seizure ofdigital evidence from on-site search locations while minimizing possible dataloss.

  • Preserving and archivingdigital evidence using forensic best practices.

  • Utilizingauthorized forensic tools to perform forensic imaging and extraction fromdigital media.

  • Writing clearreports that accurately present forensic findings and including detailed notesto ensure results are repeatable.

  • Testifying incourt, Grand Jury, or other legal proceedings through testimony, swornaffidavits, or other legal instruments.

  • Successfullypassing competency and annual proficiency tests in Digital Forensics.

  • Maintain operationaleffectiveness of all assigned Government hardware, software, and forensicsupport equipment.

  • Maintainingproper chain of custody of evidence and associated documentation.

  • Provide guidanceand training on emerging technology and new techniques to forensic personnel asneeded.

  • Perform otherlaboratory forensic functions as assigned.

On-Site Backups (OSB)

  • Ability to travelwith limited advance notice of 1-2 days. OSB travel typically consists of 2nights/3 days with days 1 and 3 identified as travel days. The contracted examiner must be able to adjustimmediately to unexpected changes. OSB operations normally take place duringthe work week (i.e. Monday through Friday); however, occasionally weekend (i.e.Saturday and Sunday) work may be required.

  • OSB operationsfrequently exceed a typical eight-hour day and it is required that thecontracted examiner remain onsite as long as is necessary to complete theoperation.

  • Provide onsitedigital forensics technical support for customer operations.

  • Identify and provideassistance and guidance for search and seizure of computer systems, handhelddevices, and digital storage media.

  • Follow laboratorypolicies and procedures for OSB operations.

Laboratory Analysis and Database Extractions

  • Interfacing witha case agent and developing analysis plan to address questions of investigativerelevance.

  • Perform forensicanalysis, to include, but not limited to:

  • Recoveringdeleted files and other system artifacts.

  • Decryptingpassword protected data files and devices.

  • Performing forensickeyword searches and producing results.

  • Analyzing andinterpreting various data to provide technically accurate forensic results andreports.

  • Querying,extracting, and reporting data from relational databases found on suspect mediawhile maintaining data integrity.

  • Recovering andrestoring proprietary pharmaceutical databases from flat files or backups.

  • Writing clear andconcise technical reports and notes detailing work.

  • Conductingresearch and development to identify evidentially significant artifacts fromemerging hardware and software technologies.

  • Conductingresearch and development to identify new methods of forensic data extractionand preservation.

  • Conductingvalidation of tools and techniques.

  • Provide guidanceand training on emerging technology and new techniques to forensic personnel asneeded.

  • Participate andrepresent the laboratory in professional organizations and working groups asrequired.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able toobtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • Must have a validdriver’s license.

  • Must possess alaboratory-approved industry certification in digital forensic analysis priorto being assigned to the contract.

  • At a minimum,shall have a Bachelor’s degree in a science or computer related field from anaccredited University or foreign equivalent with a minimum of 24 credit hoursin computer science, engineering, or mathematics. Exceptions will be consideredfor exceptional forensic examiner candidates without a Bachelor’s degree thathave equivalent years directly related to digital forensics in a lawenforcement environment or other experience in applied computer science orsimilar fields that demonstrates outstanding technical and analyticalcapabilities.

  • Must have atleast seven (7) or more years of direct digital forensic experience.

  • Must possess alaboratory-approved industry certification, currently the EnCE.

  • Ability to pass alaboratory defined skills test prior starting. This skills test may consist ofa proctored written test, hands on practical test, written report, orcombinations thereof.
