JOB DESCRIPTION: SAVA is seeking a candidate to perform digitalforensic analysis and research and development support. In situations where laboratory requirementsare not clearly specified, the candidate shall research current industrysolutions and provide comprehensive analysis of potential solutions to addressanalytical gaps. The duties may include,but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identifyingpotential analytical or technical gaps in current technical procedures ormethodologies.

  • Developinghardware and software solutions in support of laboratory operations.

  • Draftingtechnical documentation and white papers on relevant technical topics asneeded.

  • Researchingcurrent industry trends to identify potential sources of forensic informationand techniques.

  • Assisting withseizure of digital evidence from on-site search locations while minimizingpossible data loss.

  • Preserving andarchiving digital evidence using forensic best practices.

  • Utilizing authorizedforensic tools to perform forensic imaging and extraction from digital media.

  • Writing clearreports that accurately present forensic findings and including detailed notesto ensure results are repeatable.

  • Testifying incourt, Grand Jury, or other legal proceedings through testimony, swornaffidavits, or other legal instruments.

  • Successfullypassing competency and annual proficiency tests in Digital Forensics.

  • Maintainoperational effectiveness of all assigned Government hardware, software, andforensic support equipment.

  • Maintainingproper chain of custody of evidence and associated documentation.

  • Provide guidanceand training on emerging technology and new techniques to forensic personnel asneeded.

  • Perform otherlaboratory forensic functions as assigned.

On-Site Backups (OSB)

  • Ability to travelwith limited advance notice of 1-2 days. OSB travel typically consists of 2nights/3 days with days 1 and 3 identified as travel days. The contracted examiner must be able toadjust immediately to unexpected changes. OSB operations normally take placeduring the work week (i.e. Monday through Friday); however, occasionallyweekend (i.e. Saturday and Sunday) work may be required.

  • OSB operationsfrequently exceed a typical eight-hour day and it is required that thecontracted examiner remain onsite as long as is necessary to complete theoperation.

  • Provide onsitedigital forensics technical support for customer operations.

  • Identify andprovide assistance and guidance for search and seizure of computer systems,handheld devices, and digital storage media.

  • Follow laboratorypolicies and procedures for OSB operations.

Laboratory Analysis and Database Extractions

  • Interfacing witha case agent and developing analysis plan to address questions of investigativerelevance.

  • Perform forensicanalysis, to include, but not limited to:

  • Recoveringdeleted files and other system artifacts.

  • Decryptingpassword protected data files and devices.

  • Performingforensic keyword searches and producing results.

  • Analyzing andinterpreting various data to provide technically accurate forensic results andreports.

  • Querying,extracting, and reporting data from relational databases found on suspect mediawhile maintaining data integrity.

  • Recovering andrestoring proprietary pharmaceutical databases from flat files or backups.

  • Writing clear andconcise technical reports and notes detailing work.

  • Conductingresearch and development to identify evidentially significant artifacts fromemerging hardware and software technologies.

  • Conductingresearch and development to identify new methods of forensic data extractionand preservation.

  • Conductingvalidation of tools and techniques.

  • Provide guidanceand training on emerging technology and new techniques to forensic personnel asneeded.

  • Participate andrepresent the laboratory in professional organizations and working groups asrequired.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able toobtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • Must have a validdriver’s license.

  • At a minimum,shall have a Bachelor’s degree in a computer science, engineering, ormathematics from an accredited University with 3years of hands-on experience in applied software orhardware design. OR 7 years of additional hands-on experience demonstrating outstanding technical and analytical capabilities will be in lue
