The Safety Intern position offers valuable training and hands-on field experience which will, in combination with course work, provide a solid foundation as a future safety professional. Safety Interns generally work under the supervision of an experienced safety professional. The intern will be exposed to both technical and administrative duties. Typical duties include assisting in the development and implementation of Safety Plans, participating in the coordination of training needs with site and corporate staff, performing (or assisting with) employee orientation and training, conducting site audits, and maintaining files and records. Training may include OSHA coursework. To qualify for the Safety Intern position, you must currently be enrolled in a B.S. or B.A. program with an HSE related discipline. Prior experience with industrial hygiene practices is preferred but not required. This is a paid internship beginning in June and completing in August.


  • Learn the elements of a safety management system; corporate & project.

  • Assist the Safety Manager with daily tasks as assigned.

  • Complete assigned safety training courses.

  • Interface with project Safety Points of Contact and other Shared Services groups on a daily basis.

  • Prepare weekly Tool Box Safety topics for project Safety use.

  • Review and update corporate Safe Operating Procedures.

  • Participate in safety metric calculations and trend analysis.

  • Evaluate risk and develop recommendations and/or plans to minimize risk.

  • Participate in project safety assessments and prepare audit reports.

  • Participate in incident investigation and corrective/preventative actions.

  • Participate in Worker Compensation Claim management.

  • The position requires reading, detailed work, problem solving, interactions, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, active listening and learning, and the ability to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions. The position will also require the employee to manage multiple concurrent tasks, and handle constant interruptions.



  • Applied to or enrolled in an HSE-related vocational, certification or degree program

  • Interest in an HSE profession.

  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn; takes initiative; responsible; and the ability to multi-task.

  • Must be a NANA Shareholder and own stock in “NANA Regional Corporation, Inc.”

  • Must be available for entire program.

This is an entry level safety internship position having Operation and HSE mentorship. This position works under the direction of the Safety Manager with support from the Director HSE Operations.


The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is required to stand and walk for a significant portion of the work day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may occasionally be outside on an active project site and may be exposed to outside harsh weather conditions and limited physical requirements such as climbing stairs and scaffolding, working at heights, maneuvering around small obstacles, and moving through cramped quarters. The noise level in the work environment may be elevated.
