Summary/General Description of Job:

Under direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Mechanic is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of center buildings to include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, HVAC Industrial Refrigeration Systems and equipment such as condensing units, compressors, evaporators, and small oil and gas fired hot water boilers.Some duties on the job include connecting refrigeration lines and electrical power source, handling hazardous refrigerant substances, and checking systems and equipment for leaks.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Performs Trouble calls on Refrigeration Equipment.

  • Able to inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective repairs.

  • Replaces obsolete and inoperable equipment.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on Refrigeration Equipment.

  • Responds quickly to emergency situations.

  • Ability to service, maintain, operate and adjust all small oil and gas fired hot water boilers as well as auxiliary heating specialties other that high pressure equipment.

  • Recommend and order necessary parts and supplies for installation, service, repair and maintenance of all refrigeration equipment and small oil and gas fired hot water boilers.

  • Conduct necessary tests, including standard industry approved trouble shooting methods to determine malfunctions and/or causes of breakdowns of all assigned equipment

  • Performs on call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.

  • Performs all work in a safe manner in accordance with safety practices and procedures.

  • Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.

  • Performs duties such as, but not limited to:work and plant area clean up, file maintenance, warehouse space maintenance and telephone answering as required.

  • Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.

  • Performs periodic stock inventories and request material requisitions for replacement items as required.

  • Ability operate motor vehicles and/or other equipment.

  • Assists and supports other departments, staff and/or trade groups as needed or directed.

  • Adheres to the established safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Performs other related work as required or assigned.

  • Timely and cost effective performance of duties.

  • Adherence to all safety, environmental and health rules and regulations.

  • Harmoniously working with other employees and customers.

  • Working with the Supervisors and Operators to outline work to be done, after which incumbent is expected to work independently.

Qualifications

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):

Mandatory

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.

  • Refrigeration School graduate or equivalent apprenticeship in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration with 3 years journeyman level experience or a minimum 5 years verifiable HVAC Refrigeration journeyman level experience.

  • CFC Universal Certification.

  • Ability to use mandatory manuals, technical bulletins or Manufactures Operating Manuals.

  • Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools.

  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable facility/infrastructure codes and standards.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • U.S. Citizenship.

  • Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds, climb ladders and work in high places.
