Satellite Facilities Operations Branch Manager


Akima Intra-Dataprovides support services to the federal and civilian agencies of the U.S Government as well as commercial organizations. Our core competencies include training and training system development, data and records management, information technology, administrative support, facilities operations and management, and base operations support services.


This position directs and oversees the maintenance and repair of buildings and structures; operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities; maintenance and repairs of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; maintenance and repair of utility systems to include water distribution systems, plumbing systems, and fuel distribution systems; grounds and surfaced area maintenance at Fort Benning satellite locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in carrying out department objectives in the Satellite Facilities Operations and Maintenance Section.

  • Works independent of Installation based home office ensuring contract compliance is maintained while reporting regularly on all operational issues and accomplishments.

  • Provides daily updates as well as status of work accomplished to the contractor’s work control division.

  • Reviews section and shop workload, schedules, and personnel assignments.

  • Reviews status of ongoing work and projects.

  • Interprets codes associated with the building and construction trades.

  • Assigns service orders to individuals. Advises and makes recommendations on work efficiencies.

  • Conducts safety meetings and enforces proper safety procedures and PPE usage

  • Coordinates work activities with other shops within Public Works and with customers in the field.

  • Responsible for conforming to all safe work practices and procedures.

  • Plan and schedule the work of multiple sections, departments or organizations for maximum effective utilization of employees, equipment and material within budgetary, cost and quality standards.

  • Estimate manpower and equipment requirements. Requisition and select qualified employees necessary to perform work and appropriate equipment and tools required to execute the work.

  • Assign employees to jobs. Instruct them in proper performance of work and familiarizes them with company rules and regulations.

  • Maintain discipline of employees under their supervision in accordance with established rules and regulations. Initiate appropriate disciplinary action.

  • Assume responsibility for the proper application of established employee relations, wage and salary policies, safety and health regulations.

  • Initiates action and recommends promotions, merit increases, transfers, leaves of absence and other personnel changes.

  • Coordinate the functions performed under his/her supervision with those performed under others’ supervision.

  • Arranges for proper maintenance of machines, equipment and facilities for which the work unit is responsible.

  • Prepares reports concerning department budget and activities.

  • Reports to central management office daily on remote facility status.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of all trade procedures used in the maintenance and repair of facilities.

  • Knowledge of chemicals and equipment used in the building maintenance trade.

  • Knowledge of principles of stock control.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and training.

  • Knowledge of work control procedures and processes

  • Knowledge of safety measures and PPE associated with the building maintenance trades.

  • Knowledge of the NEC, NFPA and EPA requirements and codes

  • Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration applications and management practices

  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and customer representatives.

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and construction diagrams/designs.

  • Ability to effectively evaluate, plan and accomplish operational requirements in an independent environment


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Process, Reliability, or other related field) desired

  • This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of facility and systems maintenance principles and practices to a broad area of assignments.

  • 10 years of experience in building maintenance

  • 5 year of supervisory experience.

  • This position requires a valid state driver’s license
