In addition to performing all functions of Level I Gunsmith, the level II usually requires attendance at factory Armorer’s courses of small arms in the arms room inventory, performs major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons, can build either custom pistols or rifles with little or no supervision, possesses excellent knowledge of gun-smiting tools and procedures, and possesses moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics. This worker has a thorough understanding of firearm operation principles, has a moderate knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories, can fabricate special jigs, fixtures and other special tooling with some supervision, can read and understand blueprint drawings, and can work from those drawings under direct supervision. The Gunsmith II can perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems. This position may require computer literacy.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Serves as Lead Journeyman repairer of all small arms such as, but not limited to pistols, rifles, shotguns, carbines, grenade launchers, submachine guns, mortars, cannons, howitzers and other accessories such as mounts, bayonets and tripods.
Performs the full range of work involved in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of small arms and accessories.Validates repairs conducted by subordinates are to standard.
Makes initial acceptance inspection which consists of diagnosis and location of mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions of small arms and accessories. Verifies paperwork and work order packets are correct and to standard.
Performs complete disassembly, completely checks all parts by visual, gauge or operational means. Determines exact nature of repairs required. Replace broken or damaged parts in accordance with specifications of technical manuals and technical bulletins.
Reassembles weapons completely. Modifies weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies in accordance with DA modification work orders.
Perform bore scope and pullover on M1A2, M109A6, and other cannon related equipment. Annotates information on DA form 2408 weapons card.
Uses hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments and jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications and adjustments.
Maintains and conducts all aspects of vault operations, security and documentation of sensitive items, IAW Company and applicable regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.
FREEDOM TO ACT:
Reports to Assigned Supervisor and functions somewhat independently under his /her guidance.
Education: High School graduate or equivalent with formal military or civilian training in small arms repair specific to 45 series.
Experience: Two years administrative experience with some knowledge of military operations and schedules. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Must also possess a working knowledge of office tools/programs.
Must possess and continuously maintain a current State of Colorado Driver’s License prior to starting or by 30 days after employment.
Must be US Citizen to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a CAC or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
