Ground Support Equipment Mechanic (UME)

Description

ASO provides logistics, facilities maintenance and operations, transportation and support services for mission-critical military installations and civilian agencies around the country. The Ground Support Equipment Worker makes repairs to Ground Support Equipment (GSE) following orders of a higher-grade worker, troubleshooting malfunctions of GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools, prepares GSE for storage and transportation, uses automated maintenance data systems to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, maintains external fuel and grounding systems. This worker performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation, services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.

In addition, the Ground Support Equipment Worker removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories, stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations, operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles; maintains vehicle records, maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records, provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations, and practices go.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  • Provides unit direct support and general support (DS/GS) Maintenance function, including overhaul, but not rebuild of power generation equipment, internal combustion engines and associated equipment up through 200KW generators. To include various ground support equipment i.e.: air conditioners, heaters, decontaminating apparatus, air compressors, laundry units, water purification units, hose fabrication and lawn equipment.

  • Uses diagnostic equipment i.e.: multi-meters, load banks and other equipment related to power generators and ground support equipment, able to read and understand wiring schematics/wiring diagrams.

  • Performs cleaning of equipment.

  • Troubleshoots problems in both tactical and non-tactical generators and ground support equipment. Determines nature and extent of repairs required.

  • Maintains tools and equipment and clean work area.

  • Able to order parts for equipment being repaired. Picks up parts from supply.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Commercial diagnostics and test equipment; materiel handling equipment; personal protective equipment (respirators, gloves, coveralls, aprons, etc)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting; and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required is certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules. Steel Toes are required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Formal civilian or military training

in power systems.

Experience: Two years experience as a power system mechanic, helper or

apprenticeship may apply in lieu of formal training or equivalent

combination of education and experience.

Must possess and continuously maintain a current State of Colorado Driver's License.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be US Citizen and receive a favorable background

check and drug testing results.
