Summary

This seasonal position provides technical support within a multi-disciplined team of scientific and environmental professionals.Contribute to environmental investigation and remediation projects, including all phases of planning, soil sampling, water sampling, data analysis, and report writing. This is an entry level position that will work at both office and field locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to health and safety policies as a number one priority.

  • Travel out to project sites in remote Alaska.

  • Participate in a variety of scientific and environmental projects under supervision as assigned.

  • Assist with preparation of investigation and work plans and remedial action plans.

  • Perform soil and groundwater site investigations;

  • Perform groundwater monitoring and sampling;

  • Record field observations in a concise, accurate, and legible manner;

  • Deliver scientific data that is complete and meets quality objectives and complies with SOP’s.

  • Compile and analyze data and assist with drafting site investigation work plans and soil and groundwater investigation reports;

  • Share lessons learned and strive for continual program and personal improvement.

  • Provide team communication.

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • At least two (2) years of college level study, preferably in science, math or engineering.

  • Current OSHA 40 hour Hazwoper training preferred.

  • Experience, either academic or professional, with surface water and or groundwater hydrology.

  • Experienced with statistical methods for data analysis.

  • Must be willing and able to adhere to health, safety, and quality assurance protocols.

  • Ability to travel up to 75% of time.

  • Must have the physical ability to conduct field operations safely in extreme weather conditions.

  • Must be competent with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Must have good problem resolution abilities.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.

  • Ability to work out in the field and in an office.

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors/Outdoors – Frequent exposure to moderate to harsh weather conditions. Requires work to be done both inside and outside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Description of environment: Frequently required to be outside at construction/project sites. Also occasionally inside in standard office setting.

Physical requirements:Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Travel required up to 75 percent of the time. Employee will travel to remote areas and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, helicopters, small airplanes and ATVs.
