This positioncarries out those activities required to maintain and repair facilitiesthroughout Alaska as well inspection and repair of machinery and equipmentwithin assigned facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performroutine repairs and preventative maintenance tasks on commercial properties.

  • Works dailywith a computerized maintenance management system to enter, close and recordwork orders.

  • Works usinga variety of trade skills and/or other skill sets in all aspects of FacilitiesMaintenance to include but not limited to general construction/carpentry, minorelectrical/plumbing, light concrete/masonry work.

  • Occasionallymodifies/repairs interior walls systems, floor coverings, window coverings.

  • Troubleshoots/repairsoverhead doors, interior/exterior doors and hardware.

  • Performsminor locksmith duties as needed for doors and office equipment, i.e.; copykeys, replace lock cores, repair/replace lock mortise cassettes, othermiscellaneous troubleshooting.

  • As anexample, other various duties and responsibilities for the position requires,but are not limited to, are as follows.

  • Walls &Flooring Repairs:

  • Drywallinstallation/repairs, patching, sanding, painting.

  • Sheet vinyl(laminate) installation/repair.

  • Painting –new work or touch-up where repairs are made.

  • Carpet/Carpettiles, other floor covering repairs/installation (re-gluing, securing).

  • Electrical/LightingRepairs:

  • Test/troubleshootswitches and outlets; repair or replace as needed.

  • Check/troubleshootunder-desk UPS units.

  • Test/replacepower cords and surge protector power strips.

  • Replacebulbs/lamps for interior and exterior lights as necessary.

  • Repair/troubleshootfluorescent fixtures, replace ballasts, etc.

  • Replacebatteries for emergency lighting and exit signs.

  • Repair/replace/installlighting electrical fixtures as needed.

  • Othermiscellaneous electrical and lighting repairs.

  • PlumbingRepairs:

  • Repair/replacementof sink faucets, water supply lines.

  • Replacingwax ring seals/spud gaskets for floor and wall mounted toilets/urinals.

  • Repair/replacementof sink p-traps, toilet ball-check valves, flapper valves, water supply lines,flushometers.

  • Troubleshooting/repairsto exterior water (hose) bibbs/spigots.

  • Concrete/masonryRepairs:

  • Repair/patchsidewalks/curbs.

  • Touch-upmortar for brickwork.

  • Othermiscellaneous (minor) masonry related repairs.

  • Maintains,cleans work areas, tools and equipment.

  • Assistsother Maintenance Technicians as necessary.

  • Otherrelated duties may also be assigned as required.

  • Drivesvehicles from office to work locations throughout the work day.

  • Monitors,escorts and directs as necessary specialty subcontractor personnel.

  • Thisposition does not have supervisory responsibilities.

  • Other dutiesthat are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.


Minimum Requirements

  • A highschool diploma or GED equivalent.

  • At least 3years of directly related work experience.

  • Valid AlaskaDriver’s License with 3 yrs. clean driving record. Insurable by NMS/ NDC insurance company.

  • Incumbentmust be able to uphold a current State of Alaska driver’s license.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather:Work is both indoors and outdoors.Theemployee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high,precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals;outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.


Theemployee must be able and willing to fly in small aircraft

Theemployee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently liftand/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift and/or move more than100 pounds. Frequently required to sit,stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouchor crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Specificvision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Theemployee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high,precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals;outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.

Thenoise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
