This position serves at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees for the AqqalukTrust and functions as the Chief Executive and Operating Officer, responsiblefor overall leadership and management of the Aqqaluk Trust. In conjunction withthe Board of Trustees, the President is responsible for carrying out themission of the Trust; for developing and implementing strategies and proceduresfor accomplishing its mission; and most critically, for ensuring that theorganization has the sustainable financial resources it requires to fulfill itsmission.
Primarily responsible for developing and implementing afundraising program to attract sufficient private, governmental, and corporatedonations and grants that the Trust becomes self-sustaining entity.
Responsible for fund development and fiscal management ofthe organization.
Responsible for ensuring that the strategies, goals,policies and directives of the Aqqaluk Trust Board of Trustees are carried out,including providing appropriate leadership and direction to the staff.
Responsible for selection, training, supervision andevaluation of the management team and program staff.
Responsible for the design and successful implementation ofTrust programs in accordance with the Trust’s budget.
Responsible for ensuring that the Trust and its programsoperate in strict compliance with applicable laws, regulations, grantrequirements, and best practices for non-profit trusts.
Provides recommendations to the Trustees in regards to the focus,direction, and growth of the Trust, and carries out the directions of theTrustees.
Works cooperatively with Regional organizations, AlaskaNative organizations, and other organizations to achieve the Trust’s objectivesand to maximize benefits to the trust beneficiaries.
Participates in professional organizations and training fornon-profit executives.
Develops and implements a plan for making the Trust awell-known and well-respected charitable organization.
Determines the employment positions and organizationalstructure needed to carry out the mission of the Trust; then recruits, screensand hires individuals to fill such positions and supervises the office staff
Carries out such other and further duties as may berequested by the Trustees from time to time.
A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline or at least five years ofresponsible executive managerial experience.
At least 5-8 years of experience leading a business orentity within a defined budget including managing employees.
Preferred 5 years experience raising significantresources from foundations, corporations, individuals, events and publicentities preferred.
Ability to speak Inupiaq or committed and motivated tolearn the language
Requires frequent travel, both within the State and outsideAlaska.
Must have demonstrated organizational and leadershipskills.
Must display a superior level of interpersonal, written andcommunications skills.
Must show team-building skills with ability to focus onstrategic objectives.
* Physical Demands * – This employee is regularlyrequired to sit, use hands, talk, and hear and must occasionally lift and/ormove up to 30 pounds. The work environment noise level is usually quiet.Employee may travel to various locationswithin the United States and/or remote locations and may be required to usealternative modes of transportation including but not limited to snow machines,boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.
