Provide Computer Security Monitoring andIncident Response to the Bureau of Indian Affairs as part of a multi-person team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interest in and have extensive knowledge of network and computer security issues

  • Develop and explain technical decisions

  • Separate fact from opinion and speculation

  • Excellent work prioritization, planning, and organizational skills

  • Interact effectively with vulnerability reporters, system and network administrators, vendors, experts, Internet users, sponsors, policy makers, news reporters, managers and staff (i.e., stakeholders in the vulnerability disclosure process)

  • Work with closely coordinated team during emergencies

  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and creative problem solving skills

  • Excellent written, oral communication skills

  • Recognize and deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive information

  • Work meticulously with careful attention to detail

  • Shift work schedule will be required including holidays (7AM – 3:30PM Monday through Friday).

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Three to five years of experience in a Windows and Unix/Linux environment

  • Operational details of multiple operating systems

  • System, database, and/or network administration

  • Various Internet protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP)

  • Computer system and Internet security issues

  • Understanding of intruder techniques and software exploitation methods

  • Security auditing practices including vulnerability scanning

  • Various security technologies (e.g., encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems)

  • Log analysis experience using Splunk and/or SIEM logging systems to detect system anomalies

  • Network packet analysis using WireShark

  • Cryptographic principles and common cryptographic protocols

  • Security industry related certifications including Security and/or CISSP.
