Job Summary Develops, builds, modifies, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of electrical and electronic apparatus and equipment, including the entire process of electronic fabrication, packaging, and assembly of micromodules into complex electronic equipment systems.Fabricates, packages, and tests semiconductors, printed circuit board design and test, circuit or micromodules. Assists in conducting experiments and acquiring data. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedures to meet desired specifications.

Job Specifications SNL is in need of several electronic technicians to build component, tray and assembly level system components to support the rapid deployment of systems to the end customer. Individuals will work as part of high performing teams in a high visibility project with short time lines. Self-starter and effective time management skills are critical. No hazardous material is involved in this work. Individuals should be able to perform work on an as needed overtime basis.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability Typically requires skill in electronics or related technologies, such as mechanics or optics. May require specialized training for the control of radioactive material and wastes. Knowledge and experience with electrical design, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance. Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of electrical design, engineering, or maintenance. Ability to prepare and present electrical systems and equipment testing and reporting. Knowledge of the use, distribution, and potential variances and hazards of electrical currents. Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications. Knowledge of Sandia National Laboratories' electricity-related policies, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of requirements and environmental impacts affecting electrical design, engineering, and maintenance. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting electronic systems and equipment. Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Must have the ability to assemble electronics, circuits, tray and assemblies from drawings and prints.

  • Must be able to work well with others, have good communication skills, be comfortable in a team environment and be able to use sound techniques for system build.

  • Must be goal oriented.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired)

  • Experience in circuit, tray and system level electronic assembly

  • Ability to solder.

  • Additional capability in basic computer setup/networking skills.

  • Some mechanical aptitude developed through hobby/work experience is desirable.
