Job Summary Executes a continuum of business development functions to develop Sandia National Laboratories programs and support the execution of mission and research strategies. Combines technical knowledge and business acumen to support Sandia entities such as strategic management units (SMU),research foundations, and divisions in the development and execution of business and partnership strategies. Supports business development functions utilizing market research, competitive intelligence, strategic business plans, marketing plans, engagement and capture plans, intellectual property management and deployment, sponsor interface, proposal development, and negotiation of technology partnership agreements. Advances federal or non-federal partnerships through innovative policies and best business practices and creates new models for institutional partnerships, which may lead to public-private partnerships or programs.

Job Specifications We are seeking a Technical Business Development Professional to support Sandia's Academic Partnerships office in the development of strategic direction for future business, programs and science and technology investments. In this role, you will work closely with Campus Executives, on-campus partnership managers, and a large number of stakeholders across the Lab. This role provides opportunities to: develop and assist in the execution of long-range objectives and strategies by identifying internal and external strategic issues that could affect research, mission and partnerships growth and performance; scan the environment to identify and utilize comparative/competitive intelligence and monitor national and international issues related to Sandia National Laboratories' mission to develop strategies for future research, mission and investment directions; and create internal and external briefs/concise presentations on strategy and insight needs/trends and create qualitative insight reports that identify key findings and segment audiences by opportunity.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability Technical business development knowledge (theory and application) in a high-tech industrial organization, government laboratory, or federal agency. Ability to rapidly produce analyses on subject research and to offer products in a form prompting management decisions in various media, styles, and formats. Understanding of intellectual property; legal, regulatory, and contractual constructs and intellectual property deployment frameworks. Ability to use a broad knowledge of intellectual and capital assets, business, and financial models to evaluate opportunities in light of competing alternatives. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local government, and DOE legal frameworks and regulations to develop and promote beneficial federal or non-federal partnerships and agreements. Ability to understand and communicate technical concepts and mission needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel and to build effective business relationships. Ability to negotiate contractual agreements and anticipate, understand, and react to potential and current sponsor or customer needs. Ability to translate business development strategies into action plans and follow through to completion. Leadership and project management skills, including the ability to exercise initiative and to manage and complete multiple priorities. Ability to work with sensitive or classified information.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years relevant experience in a high tech, government, or academic setting

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Program/project planning and coordination

  • Business planning and development

  • Marketing and sales tools/processes

  • Customer relationship management techniques

  • Excellent verbaland written communication skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance

Preferred Qualifications (Desired) • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-discipline team environment

• Experience communicating and coordinating with a spatially dispersed team

• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management

• Understanding of intellectual property licensing and administration

• Business development experience in Science and Technology related fields
