Wolverine Services provides the reliable facilities operations and maintenance, base level logistics, airfield operations, and range operations services that keep military bases and federal agency posts around the country operating at peak efficiencyThe Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician installs, modifies and repairs refrigeration –hermetic, semi-hermetic, mechanical, screw, scroll and centrifugal units to1100 tons; air conditioning, ventilation; reverse osmosis systems, computer rooms; process coolers; ice machines; evaporative cooling; air compressing and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems equipment

General Description of Responsibilities:

Operates, repairs, troubleshoots, and performs corrective and preventative maintenance on industrial chilled water and steam production equipment and distribution systems including all auxiliary mechanical, electrical, and chemical treatment equipment in a manner to ensure adequate and reliable thermal services to governmental facilities. Works under limited supervision using discretion and latitude, with the awareness that all work is checked and inspected upon completion.

Essential Function:

  • Maintains, operates, and performs major repairs and overhauls on industrial HVAC chillers, steam boilers, and distribution systems including all auxiliary support equipment.

  • Performs and applies advanced mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting techniques on steam boilers, industrial chillers, controls, and auxiliary components.

  • Reads and interprets mechanical, piping and electrical drawings, blue prints and diagrams.

  • Applies advanced heating & cooling principles, practices and theories such as refrigerant cycles, heat transfer laws, test and balance and fluid hydronics.

  • Maintains, monitors, and controls boiler and cooling tower water system's chemical treatment equipment. Tests, records, interprets, and adjusts system feed rates to maintain required chemical treatment parameters.

  • Operates aerial man lifts, refrigerant recovery equipment, overhead cranes, hoists, power tools, electrical testing instruments, oxy-acetylene equipment, pipe threading machines, and other equipment used in the industrial HVAC, chiller and steam boiler trade.

  • Determines materials needed for repair work and prepares requisition.

  • Interacts with internal and external contacts, co-workers/peers, business supervisors/managers, government and regulatory agencies, and vendors.

  • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing.

  • Provide guidance and assistance to other employees.

  • Performs all other work related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time to perform job.

Working conditions are primarily in an industrial plant with exposure to excessive noise, heat, high voltage equipment, with potential exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and confined space hazards. Qualified in the use of respiratory protection equipment may be required if part of a permitted confined space entry team or performing tasks with exposure to chemicals, hazardous atmospheres, monitoring, acid cleaning, chlorine system repair, or heavy dust concentrations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Five years' experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installation, and inspection of industrial HVAC equipment, auxiliary components, and distribution systems.

  • Basic electrical knowledge and trouble shooting principles.

  • Proficient in the use of refrigerant recycling/recovery equipment, power tools, multi-meter, soldering/brazing equipment, pipe threading machines, and tube cleaning equipment

  • Able to use word processing, spreadsheet, computerized maintenance management system, and database software.

  • Knowledge of industrial HVAC water chemical treatment applications and theory.

  • Certified as a Universal Refrigerant Handling and Recovery Technician

  • Must be EPA certified

  • Valid Class "C" Driver License.

  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally

  • May be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as nights, weekends, holidays, on call, and rotating shifts.

Proffered Qualifications:

  • HVAC trade school certification.

  • Experience working with and knowledge of Trane, Flex software and Rockwell interface York Chiller software.
