POSITION SUMMARY:

The VoIP Engineer is a subject matter expert in VoIP communications with a background in medium to large infrastructure and design. This position requires technical expertise in routing, optimization, call flow technology, customer service and QoS as referenced to DoD practices. The VoIP Engineer must also be able to work under intense pressure and varying situational environments to provide customers smooth call flow without interruption. This position will report directly to the SWACC Manager or supervisor as appointed.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  1. Manage and maintain multiple small, medium and large Cisco Unified Communications Managers (CUCM) groups, Gatekeepers/Gateways, and Cisco Unified Border Elements (CUBE) on all DoD networks

  2. Provides expert technical support for existing and expanding VoIP networks, services, system upgrades, and equipment purchases to the customer

  3. Monitors and identifies capacity, quality and performance issues for VoIP traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of telephony systems

  4. Collaborates with network engineers and/or administrators to ensure that VoIP traffic is marked and afforded proper treatment in QoS policies

  5. Maintains DoD accredited VoIP infrastructure in accordance with DISA standards

  6. Responsible for creating, reviewing and consulting on relevant policies and procedures which may vary by customer requirements

  7. Performs root cause analysis of any non-compliant situations and provides solutions to limit or prevent any future occurrences. Recommends changes to current practice if applicable and procedural documentation to avert future occurrences

  8. Provides Information Assurance (IA) with comprehensive and accurate diagrams in accordance with DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) standards under CENTCOM guidance.

  9. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications : One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (IT)

Experience: The VoIP Engineer should have: (1) at least three years of hands-on experience in VoIP technologies in medium to large environments, (2) an understanding of basic DoD facility security requirements, (3) knowledge of DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

Certifications: This position requires candidates to adhere to DoD 8570.01-M. All candidates are required to maintain at least one (1) baseline certification and one (1) computing environment (CE) certification. The authorized certifications for this job title are listed as follows:

IAT Level : IAT III

Baseline : CASP, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, GCIH

CE:

  • CCNP (Any)

  • CCIE (Any)

  • CCAr

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  1. Candidate must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 lbs.

  2. The work environment will be 95% indoor and 5% outdoor. The outdoor work environment may exceed temperatures 100º F. Candidate must be able to physically withstand extreme heat.
