PRIMARY FUNCTION

Responsible for the technical support for the modernization services, including software development, maintenance, security auditing, system administration, and contingency planning for the US Coast Guard C4IT systems and prototype modernization services, including planning, design, software or hardware development, support, and prototype transition management for software or hardware component..

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND DUTIES:

Provides Network Engineering services for a web based multi-server production system under direct supervision for system engineering support services staff. Provide engineering and system support services to the U.S. Coast Guard Command Control and Communications Engineering Center’s (C3CEN’s). Must have strong skills with administrative and technical computer applications: technical tools for testing, troubleshooting, etc; drawing, flowcharting; database; spreadsheets; and word processing. Other duties include, but not limited to, the following:

o Resolve complex problems involving local and wide area networking and system integration.

o Provide Network Engineering services for the US Coast Guard C4IT systems hardware and software suite.

o Assist with management of network resources to include routers, switches, cables, and configuration.

o Manage and configure routers as needed.

o Implement security configurations as necessary to meet the DHS/CG guidelines for secure networks.

o Provide support of Authority to Operate (ATO) network requirements by providing required documentation, job-aids, training, and configuration updates to meet ATO controls

o Provide daily monitoring of all network

o Coordinate with network service providers for communications outage and work to resolve all issues to completion of restoration of service.

o Review router configuration annually for implementing new security controls.

o Implement and manage passive access controls (port locks, IP authorizations, subnets, and others as required) to secure the DGPS network.

o Test and apply IOS updates and patches from OEM through SDLC process.

o Support POTS communications to remote sites via encrypted or authenticated modem.

o Ensure that all POTS communications are protected and managed in accordance with appropriate DHS/CG security policies.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum 4 years work experience with field support performing installations, testing and troubleshooting wireless and wired networks including installing and maintaining inside plant networking equipment: routers, switches, computers, and other infrastructure.

  • Security Certification is required

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Certification is required

  • Associates or Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, or other related IT field is desirable.

  • A current secret security clearance is desired. EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATIONS Hands on familiarization and experience with network test equipment and tools required supporting the network.Familiarization with MS Office product and MS Outlook. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS General office environment.Occasionally required to lift up to 50lbs. Travel may be required less the 15% of the time.
