This position receives cash from customers or employees in payment for food items purchased and also performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, or serving area.

  • This position has a starting pay range of $14.00-$20.00/Hour depending on experience.\

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Makes change or cashes checks.

  • Operates cash register to record price, compile printed list, and display costs.

  • Check cafeteria area periodically to make sure all is continually stocked and everything is full/working.

  • Continually wipes and cleans dining room and other associated areas.

  • Prepares special lists and their prices.

  • Observes any problems with the quality or quantity of food being served.

  • Assists customers as needed requested with general information, inquires, etc.

  • Places cash drawers from the safe into registers.

  • May work as a Relief Cashier in certain areas or situations.

  • May assist other employees in the food service area to help out as needed

  • Assists cooks and others as needed. Coordinates personal duties as required by the overall food service operations.

  • Delivers and sets up all local catering services as requested on an order complete with beverages, plates, napkins, appropriate utensils, etc.

  • Maintains a variety of products at certain levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas including service machines.

  • Restocks salad or soup station during service as is needed. Stocks storage areas with various products.

  • Washes objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.

  • Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans etc. and places in assigned storage areas in a an organized and orderly manner.

  • Cleans, sweeps, wipes down, etc. all general dining, kitchen, or storage areas (in some cases), spike rooms, and equipment as well as all floors.

  • Vacuums food service areas periodically or as requested

  • Removes garbage from assigned areas, sets up or breaks down tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines. Etc.

  • Assists with various periodically scheduled large cleaning projects.

  • May occasionally prepare food or cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.

  • May occasionally use PC to enter all hourly employee timecards.

  • May order food from distributor when needed'

  • Other related duties may also be assigned.

Qualifications

THIS POSITION REQUIRES:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of employment.

  • One (1) year experience of work experience in food service.

  • One (1) year cashier experience.

  • Two (2) years of customer service experience.

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge of proper food service sanitation methods and equipment.

  • Certain position(s) require a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy

Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Certain positions may require the employee to have the physical stamina to work long hours every day for extended periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
