Job Introduction Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customers mission. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

This position is supporting the National Ignition Facility (NIF) which is the world’s largest and most energetic laser facility ever built. NIF is also the most precise and reproducible laser as well as the largest optical instrument. The giant laser has nearly 40,000 optics, which precisely guide, reflect, amplify, and focus 192 laser beams onto a fusion target about the size of a pencil eraser.

The Facilities Group supporting the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate has an opening for a Material Coordinator. Under minimal supervision, the Material Coordinator will have technical, administrative, facility coordination, and ES&H responsibilities. Interactions are with programmatic personnel of all technical and administrative/managerial levels to ensure the safety and compliance of NIF&PS personnel with DOE, LLNL, and other state and federal ES&H regulations.

Due to the vast and varying types of experiments, NIF is a 24/7 operational facility. This position may require the Material Coordinator to have the flexibility to work overtime, shift and or weekends to accomplish goals. This position may also require working alternate schedules such as 4/10’s or 12 hour shifts. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.

Job Description

Essential Duties

  • Provide material handling and transportation support for the directorate.

  • Setup and take down office furnishings to meet programs' needs, according to ES&H standards.

  • Transport materials, i.e., office supplies, equipment, files, and process required paperwork for disposal.

  • Install modular furniture and seismically brace, according to Lab standards, and adjust furniture to ergonomic correctness.

  • Receive new computer and audio-visual equipment, including the processing of paperwork.

  • Perform light carpentry, plumbing and electrical work that do not require a craftsperson to complete, and use power tools to accomplish some tasks.

Marginal Duties

  • Act as lead to a group of laborers or coordinators.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience

  • Experience moving and lifting of heavy objects.

  • Demonstrated experience in fork truck and platform operation.

  • Knowledge of assembling/disassembling furniture systems such as Steelcase, Herman Miller, and Haworth.

  • Demonstrated high-level organizational skills and follow through.

  • Experience working with several departments within the Laboratory.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse group of personalities and disciplines.

  • Ability to lift 100 lbs.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards, procedures and techniques related to building coordination including technical involvement in mechanical apparatus for laboratories.

  • Experience identifying hazardous conditions/waste/operations and taking appropriate reporting action to Assurance Office.

  • Knowledge of LLNL building seismic bracing requirements, electrical safety procedures, and ergonomic and back care skills.

  • Knowledge of LLNL Life Safety Code measurements.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of LLNL ES&H standards, policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of LLNL Health & Safety manual.

Special Requirements

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level).
