Job Summary Researches, models, designs, realizes, maintains, tests, operates, and demolishes electrical systems from high-voltage transmission to low-voltage distribution. Addresses advanced design issues related to the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power and electrical devices connected to such systems. Analyzes complex grid interactions, including standby generation and renewable energy sources.

Job Specifications Employees in this job function as professional facilities electrical engineers, completing or overseeing a variety of assignments to carry out the construction, remodeling, renovation, and maintenance of buildings and facilities. Typical examples of work performed include: examine and approve electrical engineering drawings and design computations to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and established standards, codes and regulations; conduct preliminary surveys and prepare schematic, preliminary, and work drawings for the construction and maintenance of new or remodeled structures and facilities; inspect materials, workmanship, and installations for conformance to plans and specifications; consult with architects, engineers, and contractors regarding preliminary layout, construction procedures, and code requirements that apply to building projects; discuss plans, specifications, and work schedules with contractors and resolve problems associated with projects; design and prepare plans of construction projects through use of computer aided design system

Knowledge, Skills, Ability Knowledge of and experience with electrical power distribution, emergency standby and uninterruptable power supply (UPS), and generator systems and theory. Ability to perform system modeling, short circuit and load flow analysis, arc flash calculations, substation design, overhead and underground distribution, and other duties required to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient power system. Understanding of various mechanical and electrical documents, one-lines, drawings, schematics, operations and maintenance procedures, and design manuals. Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license. Knowledge and understanding of applicable sections and standards of the NEC, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and NFPA-70E requirements. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems affecting building and infrastructure energy efficiency and reliability. Experience in forecasting and planning power distribution or transmission system utilization. Ability to perform troubleshooting on high, medium, and low voltage system faults and equipment operation, and make appropriate recommendations to correct deficiencies. Ability to perform breaker coordination studies for all levels of power distribution on infrastructure and building power systems.

Minimum Qualifications (Required) •Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

•Ability to obtain certification as a Professional Engineer (PE).

•Working knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code and California Electrical Code.

•Ability to make decisions requiring scientific or engineering judgment.

•Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

•Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

•Professional engineering experience involved in the construction, remodeling, and maintenance of buildings and facilities.

•Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

•Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired) •Pursuit / completion of an advanced technical degree in electrical engineering or closely related field.

•Knowledge / experience in facilities design and construction industry best practices and standards.

•Demonstrated advanced computer skills including experience with AutoCAD.
