The Security Sergeantposition provides oversight and support for security operations at the TesoroRefinery in Kenai, AK. The successful applicant will develop and maintaina deep understanding of the business demands and have the ability to documentcomplex business processes while tracking/managing numerous business andstaffing needs. This role will translate business needs into functionalrequirements and prepare the appropriate documentation to communicate andvalidate those needs.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
Supervises operational procedures and activities for a client’s security services.
Assigns personnel to various posts or patrols. Interprets security rules and procedures.
Directs activities during major fires, storms, emergencies, etc.
Receives and appropriately resolves irregularity reports.
Periodically inspects client’s premises or facilities to determine or update security needs/services.
Continually communicates with clients to assist them as required with security matters and improve services.
Continually communicates with all levels of staff to review operating procedures, budget matters, etc. so as to be able to improve assigned operations.
Administrates a variety of business related paperwork.
Performs a variety of security related investigations.
Supervises the patrolling of buildings and grounds of a campus or work site.
Review recorded data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, incident reports, etc. to determine appropriate courses of action.
Confers with various agencies to gain their cooperation and coordination.
May perform all of the duties of assigned staff for short periods of time.
Manages subordinate security personnel.
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of a unit and directly supervises non-supervisory employees.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Coordinate Post orders, updates and revisions.
On-call during off hours to respond to site during facility-wide emergency response to assist or manage the emergency response efforts.
May assume role of Incident Command, depending of nature of incident.
Other related duties may also be assigned.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Two (2) years post-secondary education.
Candidates without such education need an additional two (2) years of related security or law enforcement experience.
At least five (5) years of directly related responsible armed security experience military and/or law enforcement experience that included significant supervisory responsibilities.
A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
A valid State of Alaska Armed Security Guard license.
Must be in good physical condition physically capable of standing and walking for a 12-hour period.
Must have good written, oral communications and human relations skills.
Must have effective training skills and ability to produce specific training for each Security position designated in the contract, and to produce general security training on a quarterly basis.
Must have excellent computer skills with working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Must have strong communication skills. The manger will participate in small group and large group meetings, provide on-site security orientation for contract workers.
Must have a positive and supportive attitude toward client’s security needs and initiatives.
Must have a telephone and reliable transportation.
Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, call-outs, etc.

The employee is regularlyrequired to see, hear and speak. Employee must be alert at all times. Dependingon shift and work assignment, employee is regularly required to stand, walkand/or sit for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally liftand/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to outside harshweather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually high.Incumbent must be able to work in less than ideal offices, facilities, or situations. Must be able to be on your feet for 12 hourshifts.
