Role/Responsibility:

Coordinates with TRG staff to provide assistance to Federal, State and Local LEOs regarding their technical challenges in recovering evidence from mobile communication devices.

Provides Tier 2 support to TRG staff by addressing requests for assistance and information on mobile device forensics from TRG staff, NDCAC personnel and Users.

Assists NDCAC management personnel to establish best practices and Standard Operating Procedures for the TRG and the handling of mobile forensic evidence and investigations; Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding forensic tools developed to assist Federal, State and Local law enforcement.

Possesses excellent oral and written communications skills.

Supports other NDCAC programs assisting federal, state, and local LEO’s.

Supports the tiered Help Desk architecture.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent specialized experience in Computer Forensic discipline is required. Certification in the use of various commercially available computer and mobile device forensic software and hardware is required. For the purposes of section 12.7, current equivalent specialized experience equates to four (4) or more years (i.e. within the past 4 years) of hands-on experience, executing the following skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to determine the most effective forensic tools, techniques and procedures for the collection and analysis of Smartphone data.

  • Documented experience in the recovery of digital forensic evidence used to create timelines and link analysis for the purposes of criminal investigations

  • Knowledge of Smartphone file system storage structures and where evidence may be located.

  • Ability to interpret file systems on Smartphones and locate information that is not generally accessible to users

  • Ability to Identify and articulate how the evidence was written to the mobile device in order to determine if it was user created data or not.

  • Documented experience with manual decoding techniques used to recover deleted data stored on Smartphones and mobile devices

  • Document experience using mobile device forensics to associate a user to a Smartphone at a specific date/time and at various locations

  • Ability to recover hidden or obfuscated communication from applications on Smartphones

  • Demonstrated ability to decrypt or decode application data that are not parsed by commercially available forensic tools

  • Experience performing advanced forensic examinations of data structures on Smartphones by diving deeper into underlying data structures.

Minimum/General Experience:

Must have at least six (6) years direct related experience in the digital computer and mobile device forensic field;

Must be an expert in digital forensic methodologies; must have demonstrated expertise in Smartphone forensic handling, device capabilities, acquisition methods, and data encoding concepts of Smartphone components.

The TRG Forensic SME must be familiar with the forensic tools required to complete comprehensive examinations of Smartphone data structures; possess knowledge and understanding of the limitations of forensic tools and the ability to recover information that even forensic tools may not always be able to retrieve.

A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in mobile device forensic examinations pertaining to criminal investigations and evidence collection.

Must have a Top Secret clearance
