Advanced Mechanical Design (2610) designs and delivers nuclear weapon safety mechanisms, satellite and ground mechanical enclosures for electronics, and opto-mechanical designs. Within that group, the TW/E would provide dedicated services to Integrated Surety Mechanisms 1 (2613) and Electromechanical Systems II (2615) with duties to include:

  • Authoring, editing,and releasing relevant documentation such as SAND Reports, PowerPoint presentations, and meeting minutes

  • Contributing to, editing, and releasing engineering specifications into the Image Management System (IMS)

  • Implementing need to know (NTK) to control access to information across a variety of platforms/systems on both the SRN and SCN such as SharePoint, MS, ElMS, file servers, and PRIDE Portal, etc.

  • Managing relevant information across a wide variety of platforms, and understanding the rationale for placement of different types of information in different repositories. Administering and/or serving as the subject matter expert for relevant information repositories such as SharePoint, ElMS, and PDMLink

  • Collaborating across the group (2610) in support of improved information management.

The TW/E in this assignment would be among three who, as a team, meet programmatic documentation demands for the group.

Firing & Embedded Systems Capabilities (2620) delivers robust firing and embedded systems for use in high consequence and extreme environment applications. Within that group, the TW/E would provide dedicated services to Advanced Firing Subsystems (2624) with duties to include:

  • Work with authors to timely complete Test Plans, Test Reports, and GEs/Design Descriptions

  • Provide support for the ongoing draft development for Product Realization Reports (RR), Product Definition and Documentation Reviews (POOR), and Final Design Review (FOR) presentations materials

  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers for Requirements Mapping /Qualification documentation

  • Provide support for efficient release of documentation into EA Web, Image Management System (IMS), and PDM Link

  • Facilitate tracking of action items for team meetings.

The Product Design and Technology Group (2730) has the Design Authority function for the Nuclear Security Enterprise supporting neutron generators, neutron tubes, switch tubes, neutron monitors, Controlatrons, lead probes, x-ray sources, and related products. Within that group, there are four departments (2731-Monitor Integration & SWTB Component Engineering, 2732-ELNG Lifecycle Engineering, 2734-FENG and Tube Lifecycle Engineering, and 2735-Applied Science & Technical Maturation) for which the TW/E will serve to meet programmatic documentation demands.

Integrated Technical Systems (5403) utilizes Mission Assurance principles to focus the Center's broad technical expertise and facilities to meet their customers' expectations as they define, assemble, instrument, ground and field test, and document their projects. The department provides technical support in the areas of Mission Assurance, Security, ES&H (including Work Planning and Control), corporate compliance, and laboratory integration. Additionally, the Technical Program Support Team operates a laboratory complex that provides hardware definition, assembly, ground test, instrumentation, and characterization supporting programs in the Integrated Military Systems Center.

The successful candidate(s) will be part of a team of four Technical Writers I Editors dedicated to meeting the documentation demands of the group.

Nuclear Security Engineering- Physical Security Center of Excellence (6510) provides high­ performance, cost-effective, and timely physical security solutions and innovative technology to counter emerging threats, leveraging and collaborating across DOE and DOD for proven security systems, technologies, and capabilities. Within that group, tasks are focused on documentation support for field Implementation I certification of physical security systems for a variety of government customers,

Including:

  • Developing standardized high-level policy and requirements documentation and field implementation guidance for use by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in accordance with congressional mandate and an aggressive schedule

  • Developing and documenting test plans/procedures, system-level performance requirements, testing methodologies, and other process-related documentation

  • Assisting in developing standardized documentation processes, templates, and a content management strategy to ensure a uniform approach to testing and documentation at the program level

  • Traveling, as needed, to various high-security facilities to support site surveys and assessments (Q Clearance required), and Becoming knowledgeable in all areas of Sandia's Design and Evaluation Process Outline (DEPO) Philosophy and physical security methodologies.

​The successful candidate(s) will be part of a team including six technical writers, a graduate student intern, a creative designer, and a program communications specialist.

Job Specifications We are seeking multiple Technical Writer and Editors for assignment to support different customers serviced by the Communications- Internal Relationships Group (Depts. 3641, 3642, 3643, 3644, 3645). Employees will be matrixed to support specific customers.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience coordinating publication projects, including establishing and maintaining budgets and schedules, and experience juggling the demands of multiple work priorities and working effectively under pressure. Knowledge of Sandia and US Department of Energy and Department of Defense publication policies, practices, and procedures, including copyright laws. Experience conducting research, Investigating, and analyzing alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems. Knowledge of Sandia's programmatic directions and requirements. May have working or specialized knowledge of Sandia's science and technology. May possess cross-disciplinary skills in developing communication products, including graphic design, website development and administration, and databases.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

Bachelor's/Master's degree in English, Journalism, Professional Writing, Technical Communications, Communications, Language & Rhetoric, Education, Liberal Arts, Business Management, or other relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Must have active Q clearance or Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired) •Upwards to five or more years of technical writing and editing experience with relevant degree

•Expertise in the use of the Microsoft Office suite, in particular Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

•Proficient In use of Share Point.

•Experience in the use of Visio, Project, and documentation repositories.

•Experience working with DOE, DoD, other government agencies, or in a Work for Others environment.

•Background in Information Management.
